Quienes Somos
Impco, LLC was initially founded in 1939 by brothers Adam, Gust, and William Goettl under the name International Metal Products Company in Phoenix, Arizona. Adam Goettl had the vision to make a practical cooling device based on ancient technology using air-flow through wetted pads to cool the air. The name given to this newly patented technology was "evaporative cooler", a name still widely recognized today as an efficient, low-cost, and environmentally friendly cooling solution.
Throughout the 1940's, International Metal Products Company (IMPCO) became the largest manufacturer of evaporative coolers in the U.S., and in 1955 opened a manufacturing and assembly plant in Monterrey, Mexico with the foresight to serve the evaporative cooler market in Mexico.
In 1960 the Goettl brothers sold the Phoenix and Monterrey factories to McGraw-Edison, a manufacturer of appliances, tools, and electrical equipment. McGraw-Edison operated the Company until 1982 at which time it sold both U.S. and Mexican operations to Arvin Industries, a leading auto parts manufacturer. Arvin Industries consolidated its consumer housewares division with their newly acquired evaporative cooler division and incorporated as ArvinAir, Inc.
In 1991, ArvinAir management formed H & C Holding Corp. and acquired the assets of the Phoenix based manufacturing facility and Impco, S.A. de C.V., the Mexican manufacturing facility. Upon completion of the acquisition the new owners changed the name to AdobeAir, Inc. With manufacturing capabilities far exceeding that of its competition and a newly patented "single inlet cooler" technology, AdobeAir had, by far, the largest share of the evaporative cooler market in the U.S. and Mexico.
The years 1991 through 1999 saw a change of ownership from H&C Holding Corp. to private equity firms, first Rutledge and Company, then Castle Harlan, Inc., a New York City based private equity firm.
In 2008, Symphony Comfort Systems, Ltd, a manufacturer and world-wide distributor of portable evaporative coolers headquartered in Ahmedabad, India, entered the picture with the acquisition of Impco. Sales and marketing efforts subsequently began in the U.S. with Impco providing wholesalers and retailers with a full line of evaporative cooler products, including products manufactured by both Impco and Symphony Comfort Systems.
The merger of two of the world's finest evaporative cooler manufacturers provides Impco and its customers with a full range of products - from personal, portable, and mobile coolers, to whole-house residential, to large commercial coolers. Coolers from 250 cfm to 50,000 cfm!
Today, Impco has taken the evaporative cooler industry to a level unthought of when Adam Goettl patented his first evaporative cooler. An impressive heritage ensures Impco's place in evaporative cooler history. Revolutionary products, innovative design, and visionary leadership ensure Impco's continued legacy as the leader in evaporative cooling technologies!
